Day 28

July 7, 2018

12:11 AM (just past midnight) Iceland Time

Today was Þora’s birthday, so we ate breakfast and then went to the pool together for about an hour. Then I had to go to work to help out with an event Endur Hugsa was putting together. They had died a sheet with purple cabbage and set out different mixtures for kids to paint on it with. We mixed lemon juice with water, baking soda with water and vinegar with water. When kids would use the different solutions, it would change the purple sheet different colors! The kids really enjoyed the activity, and I took pictures of the event for them.

We ended a bit early, and so I went home. Þora took me to see her other sister Guðfinna, who also

lives in Reykjavik. We all sat and had coffee and waffles. Some of her kids came as well so I was able to meet a few more of my cousins! It has been really neat to meet all this family. Everyone that I have met has been really welcoming and excited to meet and get to know me, and they look forward to me coming in the future with my other family members.

We headed home and watched the football match between Croatia and Russia while eating dinner. Þora made salmon, potatoes and roasted veggies. She is a really good cook! Then we headed over to her daughter Brynja’s for a party. I felt a little underdressed, but it was a lot of fun! I got to practice a little bit with my Icelandic; I am able to understand more of their conversations since I’ve been around it so much. I can understand more than I can speak though. We played some games, talked and had appetizers. Brynja and I were talking, and she was telling me that she is grateful that I was able to come and that Þora sees me as her second daughter; and I can feel that. I really have grown to love this family!! I can’t believe I only have 4 more days with them. Time is going by so fast! Anyways I am getting tired, so stay tuned for tomorrow’s adventures!
