12:21 AM (Just after
midnight) Iceland Time
This morning I had breakfast with Þora and then headed into
work. It was my last day at Gerðursafn. They had me do some social media for a
little bit, but we mostly just talked, and I am going to miss them! They want
me to come and visit them when I come back. It was such a perfect work
placement for me, and I am very grateful that I was able to participate in the
Icelandic art community. I especially made good friends with Hrafnildur, and I
know that we will stay in touch.
After saying my goodbyes, I went home and relaxed for a bit.
Then Ebba- another one of my relatives
came by and Þora, her and I talked about
how we were all related. Þora is related to Ebba as well, but they have never
met! My presence has brought them together and they were very excited to meet
and have now become friends. Ebba lived in America for 17 years but came back
to Iceland. It was a short yet sweet visit, but we are going to stay in touch!
She is going to create a Facebook group to connect all of our family online, so
we can all share stories, pictures etc.
When Ebba left, we went into town to meet with Brynja for
dinner. We went to a really nice Italian pizzeria and spent some time together
since it is my last night with my family. After dinner we went home and
continued to talk and share stories-spending as much time together as possible.
It really has been amazing to get to know everyone- I had no idea that I had so
much family in Iceland! I mean I knew I had some relatives, but a lot of the
people I have met are closer cousins than I initially anticipated! I know that
we will stay in contact and that I will see them again once I return to Iceland
or when they come visit me and my family in the states.
It has been a bittersweet last day. I am super excited for
the tour that lies ahead, and to see all my fellow Snorri friends, but I am
really going to miss my family. I am glad I at least get to spend the morning
with them tomorrow. Þora and I are going to go to the pool together tomorrow
morning one last time. I am not too sure how the internet situation is going to
be during my last 9 days, but I will try to post a blog post when I can! Stay
tuned!
