10:32 PM Iceland Time
Today we had Icelandic lessons again, and a local TV station
came into class to film us for a little short for tomorrow´s news, so I may be
on Icelandic national television!! Anyways, after a week and a half of classes
and study I can have a little bit of a conversation now, but I still am not too
confident yet. I´ve learned a lot in the past week and a half, so I am sure
that I will pick up more by the end of the trip.
Our second lecture today was on Icelandic feminism. Iceland
has had similar feminist revolutions, but what stood out most to me was about
some of the women in Icelandic government. Vigdis Finnbogadottir was the first
woman in the world to be elected head of state in a national election. Also Jóhanna
Sigurðardóttir was the first female prime minister who was the world´s first
openly lesbian head of government. Women in Iceland still face inequalities
similarly to America, but Iceland remains to be known as the most gender-equal
country in the world!
After lectures we headed into town to do a few errands, and
we stopped at this amazing crepe place called Eldur og Ís. There were
gluten free and vegan options which I greatly appreciated! I had a vegan gluten
free crepe with almond butter and strawberries. We headed back to the hostel where
we relaxed a bit and made dinner. We have been doing so much every day we
needed a bit of rest especially some of us have caught a bit of a cold. We did watch Shrek in Icelandic though!
Tomorrow we have lectures, and then we have some free time,
so I am unsure of what we are going to do, so check in tomorrow night when I
upload my next post! Goða nött!!
